It depends on scope, access, ground conditions, and how much material needs to move — so we don't quote blind. We'll visit the site, look at what's actually involved, and give you a fair, itemised price before anything starts. No surprise invoices.

Do I need resource or building consent before you start?

That depends on the job — bulk earthworks, retaining walls over a certain height, and most structural work usually need consent, while smaller driveway or landscaping jobs often don't. We'll tell you plainly if we think your project needs consent, and can point you toward what's required, but the consent itself is generally sorted through your council or designer.

How long does a typical job take?

A small driveway or house cut might be a day or two. Bulk earthworks, piling, or larger civil jobs can run from a few days to several weeks depending on scale and weather. We'll give you a realistic timeframe as part of the quote — and tell you straight away if anything changes it.

Can you work in wet weather?

Accepted Answer

Some jobs can continue in light rain, others can't — wet clay in particular turns unworkable fast, and pushing through it risks doing the site more harm than good. If weather is going to hold us up, we'll tell you before it becomes a surprise.

Is my job too small — or too big?

Neither, usually. We run everything from small excavators for tight residential sections up to plant capable of large-scale civil and rural work, so we can match the machine to the job rather than the other way around.

Do you carry insurance?

Yes, we operate as an insured contracting business. If you need documentation for your own records or for a head contractor, just ask.

How much notice do you need to book a job in?

It varies with the season — earthworks bookings get tighter over summer and before winter sets in. The earlier you get in touch, even just to pencil in a rough date, the more flexibility we'll have on timing.

Do you require a deposit?

For larger jobs, yes — a deposit secures your place in the schedule and covers any materials ordered in advance. This is agreed upfront as part of the quote, never added after the fact.

Regularly. Whether we're doing the initial site cut before your builder arrives or retaining work partway through a build, we coordinate directly with builders, project managers, and other trades to keep the schedule moving.

What if the ground turns out worse than expected once you start digging?

Accepted Answer

It happens — rock, unexpected fill, or groundwater can change the picture once we're into a site. If that happens, we stop, explain what we've found and what it means for cost or timeframe, and get your sign-off before continuing. You're never billed for a surprise you didn't agree to.
